How You Can Prepare For Winter

1. Order Early.
Winter is our busiest time of year and we recommend ordering your delivery early to avoid running out in the cold weather. You don’t want to end up without heating or hot water when it’s like the arctic outside, or just before Christmas! 2. Check Drains, Gutters, and Roof Tiling.
Rain and frost can put pressure on drains and gutters and it’s important to ensure they are clear of any build-up. This prevents blockages and overflows after heavy rain, which can save you time and money. The same goes for your roof tiling, replacing roofing can be expensive so it’s best to keep checking your slates or tiles to avoid potential leaks during stormy weather and a costly bill.
3. Make Sure Your Home Is Sufficiently Insulated.
You don’t want to lose heat because your roof space, walls, or windows aren’t properly sealed or insulated. This extends to your heating system, your boiler and pipes should be insulated too. This will keep the heat inside, make your heating oil last longer, and keep you cosy during the winter months.

4. Set Your Heating System to 10°C to Avoid Freezing.
When temperatures drop, heating oil can freeze and struggle to flow through the system. It’s important to keep your heating system at 10°C to avoid freezing, also known as ‘gelling’. If ‘gelling’ occurs, you will be stuck without heating until the system unfreezes.
5. Draught-proof Your Home.
This one is easy. Don’t let a draught in! Keep the cold from coming in from doors and windows by covering them with fabric draught-excluders.
